The war of digital assistants is all but over. Google and Amazon have wrapped up this new mode of interaction with Apple far behind. Not even mentioned in the majority of these discussions is Microsoft’s Cortana.
A digital assistant introduced for Windows Phone and brought to Windows 10, Microsoft never gave their product the kind of attention it needed to be successful. However after years of neglect and confusing messaging, Microsoft seems to be letting Amazon’s Alexa assistant take over.
So where does this leave Cortana? According to sources close to the digital assistant, she begs for Microsoft to end this charade now and stop dragging it out. Still in Windows 1903 there is a Cortana icon which can be added to the Taskbar, but now search has been broken into its own button. This long protracted death is only making things harder for everyone. Please, if you’re reading this Microsoft please end it.
