Reports from suppliers close to the Microsoft Surface line of devices have revealed new Surface devices to unleash USB 2.0 across the board. In addition to USB 2.0 the same reports have been saying all new devices will be fitted with a USB-A port for consistency.
As current owners of modern devices already know, it can be a serious pain when you go to plug in your 256MB flash drive which has your term paper on it, only to find your device has gone full USB-C! What are consumer to do in a situation like this? Luckily one company is listening to the cries of literally dozens of consumers.
Not only does Microsoft vow to support USB 2.0 on all new devices, they plan on using this as an excuse to hamper future devices from using any other type of port. The Surface team pledges they will be shut down by Microsoft before they employ modern connectivity standards; a bold statement to make given this week’s news.
